"Freestyle" Competition!

 

 

     Are you ready for something different?  Are you brave enough to step into a new realm of piping and drumming?  Are you ready to have some FUN!?  Edinboro Highland Games is breaking from tradition.  We will be offering a new sound at our Games in 2008.  Say hello to Freestyle Piping & Drumming.  We hope you will want to be a part of the new sound.

 

There have to be rules of course to make the competition fair; 2008 rules are:

1.  One piper required

2.  One drummer required

3.  At least one other musical instrument required (your choice)

4.  Minimum of 2 minutes . Maximum of six minutes

5.  At least one band member must wear a kilt

6.  It has to actually sound like music

7.  Vocals are optional   

 

     So in other words there have to be a minimum of 3 persons or a maximum of 100.  You can have vocals or not, again your choice.  It can be traditional tunes, modern, gospel, rap, bluegrass, rock....the sky is the limit, but it has to actually sound like music. (Electric, mikes and amps will be available)

 

  Judges will include: Radio disc jockey, Pipe Band major, Philharmonic director, Marching band director, Voice teacher, College kid, EUSPBA Judge

 

     Judging will be based on 1) Sound: tuning and tone and 2) Musicianship: tempo, expression, execution, unison, harmony, rhythm, dynamics, and originality.

 

Prizes to be awarded are:            Judges Choice:   $500.00

                                                    Popular Choice:  $400.00

                                                    Originality:         $300.00

                                                    Sounds Good:     $200.00

                                                    Best Costumes:   $100.00

 

 

Complete entries with rosters must be postmarked by May 3, 2008. Bands will be mailed passes for competing members as shown on entry list (band roster).  Current 2008 rules apply and all decisions by judges and other festival officials are FINAL.

 

Sorry, no traditional solo or band competitions will be offered during the 2008 .Games..
